This month saw Carnival season in our Mexican Caribbean tourism market and the “Fat Tuesday” street parties attracted thousands of extra visitors.
Carnival has a long tradition in the region, especially on the island of Cozumel, where the first Carnival took place more than 130 years ago.
The main events are on the 3 or 4 nights running up to and including Fat Tuesday, also known as Mardis Gras. Colorful performances fill the streets as the Carnival procession goes by, as they blast out the music everyone joins in the fun.
